Where is it?

There is something about the template you use on your resume, it could be the font, your sentence structures or the language you use to communicate; all these create a vibe for your resume.

Your resume just like you should have an impression, employers will not go ahead and read your entire resume if they were not impressed in the first place. Create some uniqueness and originality in your resume. You may or may not follow the traditional ways of writing a resume but remember there are details that should be clear from the word go.

What employers look for in your resume?

Most employers are precise about who and what they are looking for when it comes to recruitment; they will first look for certain information in your resume before considering you for the interview. Here are the common things that employers want to see in your resume;

Clarity

Do not tell too much when one word or a simple phrase can do. Give your resume some clear design, make sure it is presentable and the receiver does not have hard time getting information from it.

Resumes that are clear in nature will make the employer interested, but a poorly presented resume with a lot of words and unnecessary information discourages the employer. You may not get the job but getting employer’s attention is important, you may be considered some other time.

Skills and knowledge

The primary reason for writing your resume is to show your potential employer what knowledge you have and the skills you possess. Your skills should be self-descriptive, you should be proud of your knowledge and skills and that should appear clearly on your resume.

However, it is important that the most relevant skill depending on the job you are applying for should be among the first thing your employer notes when they get your resume. Identify your strengths and weaknesses in brief, employers are looking for certain strengths during recruitment.

Experience

Most people get discouraged by the experience period requirement in job adverts; however that should not bother you. If you have the relevant experience and you are confident that you can deliver, then that is the vibe the employer is looking for.

Show your past experiences clearly, your employer should see your past responsibilities without having to guess what you were doing in the companies you have worked for before. Your previous job titles should come out clearly, always include your accomplishments. Be proud of your achievements as they could be the reason you land into your next job.

Relevance

Take your time to note all the relevant information needed in your resume before sitting down to write it. A good resume has relevant information from the first sentence to the last one. If you find anything irrelevant, do not take the risk of putting it in your resume since it may put off your employer.

Simplicity

Simplicity is sleek.”

That sounds like a cliché but it’s the key thing, your resume should have the basics. Do not complicate your resume in any way. Do not pamper your resume with a lot of word and formatting that may end up distorting information that would have been better simplified.

Presentation

How you present your resume matters most, the formats, spacing and fonts you choose to use in your resume should be simple, avoid using serifs if possible. Make your resume as presentable as possible.

Next time you get an interview invite or someone asks you for your resume. Keep in mind the above tips. Always update your resume to fit the job you are applying for, if your confidence can be seen in your resume then be confident you will get that job.
