When you’re through with high school, one is determined to pursue a career that they will excel in as they settle into life. Everyone around you, particularly your family is excited at the same time anxious to see you settle into college.
For a couple of years, you put up with assignments, burn the midnight candle, attend endless group discussions and obviously enjoy your new-found freedom. Excitement and joy fills you on that day when you’re finally out of the system that has been your second home for years!
A week after your graduation, still waking up from the extended party, you realize, lo and behold! My ‘roomies’ are not here, the system is not here – you’re now on your own. Indeed, it is your freedom at last!
Freedom means now that your family knows you’re now a grown up adult able to take care of yourself, therefore that pocket money can take care of another fix at home. The ones in these category are probably counted lucky ones. There’s a good number that realizes that graduation was another graduation to more responsibilities as the family perhaps expects you to be the savior of the loans they have been surviving on to keep you in college.
Week two, you try buying the newspaper and visiting websites for job opportunities that you could apply. You notice some that sound easy but then realize you are not just ready – no resume, nor a cover letter. Quickly you visit Dr. Google. So you quickly tweak it and voila! You send it through and wait. And wait. And wait. Ten weeks later and no answer has come.
Then when you’re about to give up, your old friend in college sends you a Whatsapp text about a company that is recruiting. Quickly you call and you’re invited for an interview. You sweat just thinking about it. So again you run to Dr. G and find out some few things that you believe will get you through to the job. At 9.00 AM, someone walks over to your seat and calls you inside the office for your turn to be interviewed. You don’t know what to do – sit down, stand, smile perhaps, no, maybe look serious…it’s such a fuzz, you feel like you are floating. “Good morning, hello! Please sit down…:”
You notice the lady and the gentleman are staring at you – then it dawns on you, you have been standing there for about two minutes lost in your world. The interview goes so quickly and you hope that they will take note of how you are good at what you do. And you wait. And wait. And wait.

This is a true story for many young people who upon completing their college studies discover that though they have the skills to do a job – another step of polishing is crucial to graduate into the school of life. You will need to get help to develop a resume that sells you – not only your skills but also your interests and passion in a professional way.
